This morning, Maha Karuna Vihara warmly welcomed 88 students and 8 teachers from SMJK (C) Yoke Bin, Malacca, together with 4 representatives from the Malacca Youth Buddhist Association (MYBA). The group arrived in two buses and were greeted with light refreshments before receiving an introduction to the background and purpose of Maha Karuna Vihara.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Chief Reverend B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera, who shared with the students an important reminder: true perfection and happiness in life do not depend on knowledge alone. Wisdom and mental cultivation are equally essential โ when both are developed, one can lead a fulfilling and joyful life.
We were honoured to have Mr. Tan Leng Huat, President of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia, deliver a message on โViharaโ He too highlighted how a Buddhist community lives its practice, applying knowledge through compassion, kindness, and mindful conduct in everyday life.
This was followed by a special session with Ms. Tan Aimee, a practising lawyer, who spoke about cyber safety and the law. Her insightful sharing guided students on how to navigate the digital world safely, responsibly, and with kindness.
During the visit, the students also took part in a meaningful act of service โ helping to move essential items into the 40-foot container that will soon be shipped to Sri Lanka for flood-relief efforts. Their enthusiasm and teamwork truly reflected the spirit of compassion in action.
The programme concluded with a simple lunch prepared by Persatuan Shenpen Malaysia for our young guests.
