The Selangor State Government officially launched the Selangor State Level Wesak Celebration at the newly completed Maha Karuna Vihara in Elmina, Shah Alam on 20 April 2025. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including YB Ng Sze Han, Member of the Selangor State Executive Counci & Chairman of the Stateโs Interfaith Committee (LIMAS), Mr Shakir Amir, the Councillor of Elmina City, Chief Reverend B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera, the Abbot of Maha Karuna Vihara.
The ceremony, attended by over 300 participants, including Sangha members, community leaders, volunteers, and members of the public, united all in celebration of the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing of the Buddha. Volunteers played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event, offering their unwavering support in various capacities to ensure the occasion was seamless and meaningful. This event was also attended by Ms Lilian Tay, President of the Malaysia Buddhist Consultative Council (MBCC), Mr Tan Leng Huat, President of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia, Dato Vincent Lim Swee Chew, Chairman of the Selangor Wesak Working Committee, and Mr Apollo Leong, COO of Sime Darby Property Sdn Bhd.
Wesak is the most important event in the Buddhist calendar, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing of the Buddha. This festival serves as a time for reflection and gratitude, bringing together communities through cultural performances that embody the essence of Buddhist teachings.
The Selangor State Government continues to play a pivotal role in fostering interfaith cooperation. This year, the state government has again partnered with the Malaysia Buddhist Consultative Council (MBCC) and the Malaysia Buddhist Association (MBA), Selangor Chapter, in organizing the Wesak Celebration 2025.

The official Selangor State Wesak celebrations will continue with a variety of activities, including a photography competition and a temple visit passport stamp challenge, culminating in the grand celebration on 17 May 2025 at Maha Karuna Vihara. The event will be held from 9 AM to 1 PM, with a distinguished guest list, including the Chief Minister of Selangor, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, expected to attend.
