On 29 January 2025, first day of Chinese Lunar New Year a total of 60 cows were liberated in Sri Lanka under the Cow Liberation program organised by Maha Karuna Buddhist Society. It comes to a total of 112 cows being liberated in January 2025 under Maha Karuna Cow Liberation Program Year 2025. More cows will be liberated in February and March 2025.
In Buddhism, giving fearlessness for other living beings is called as “Abhaya Dana” and it is one of the greatest Meritorious Deeds.
By liberating the cows, we support the beings to live a peaceful and happy life. Second, in long term we support the livelihoods of the poor families (beneficiaries)
Upon handing over the cows to beneficiaries, the Master preaches the meaning of such liberation activities and the obligation of the adopted families. At the same time, blessings shared upon the cows, farmer families and the givers.
We rejoice in the Kalyanamittaโs virtues in performing life liberation. May all beings be well and happy.
