The High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, Kuala Lumpur, proudly organized the Ashadha Purnima celebration on 10th August 2014. The event took place at the prestigious Shantanand Auditorium, located within the Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur. This auspicious occasion was held in partnership with the Vajrayana Buddhist Council of Malaysia (VBCM), Itipiso Bhagava Club (IBC Malaysia) , and Maha Karuna Buddhist Society ้ฉฌๆฅ่ฅฟไบๅฎๆ
ไฝๆไผ, bringing together a diverse community to honor a day of profound historical and spiritual significance.
Ashadha Purnima, also known as ๐๐ก๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ค๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐๐ง๐, marks one of the most important events in the Buddhist calendar. It commemorates the day when Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon, known as the “Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta” or “Turning of the Wheel of Dhamma,” to his five ascetic disciples in Sarnath, India. This day is considered the beginning of the Buddha’s teaching mission and the establishment of the Sangha, the monastic community.
This first sermon laid the foundation for the spread of Buddhism, emphasizing the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, which form the core of Buddhist philosophy and practice. Ashadha Purnima is celebrated annually by Buddhists around the world as a day of reflection, learning, and recommitment to the principles of the Dhamma.
The Ashadha Purnima celebration at the Temple of Fine Arts was a deeply enriching experience for all attendees. The event featured a series of activities designed to honor the teachings of Lord Buddha and promote the understanding of the Dhamma. The program included ๐๐ก๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฌ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ by prominent Buddhist scholars and monks, who provided insights on the significance of Ashadha Purnima, the relevance of the Buddha’s teachings in modern times, and the importance of cultivating mindfulness and compassion.
In addition, cultural performances, both traditional and contemporary, highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Buddhism and the path of Prince Siddhartha towards enlightenment. These performances were presented by Lassya Arts Academy.
The event also included a presentation of the Artificial Intelligence asset, ๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฎ, offering an interactive platform for engagement among the diverse Buddhist communities in Malaysia, fostering a spirit of unity and mutual respect.
