The Maha Karuna Buddhist Society participated in the China-Malaysia Buddhist Cultural Exchange Conference commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations, inaugurated by National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
The conference aimed to deepen our understanding of Malaysia’s historical heritage and the written records of Master Yi-Jing through the mutual exchange, learning and absorption of different cultures, emphasising mutual influences and interaction between Buddhist culture. It brought together the Abbot of Famen Temple, Shanxi, alongside Buddhist leaders representing three traditions in Malaysia. This gathering enriched our knowledge of Master Yi-Jing’s 25-year travel record, which significantly contributed to global awareness of the ancient Srivijaya kingdom and provided insights into other kingdoms along the trade routes linking China and the Nฤlandฤ Buddhist University in India. Master Yi-Jing’s dedication and perseverance have played a pivotal role in the propagation of Buddhism.
Most Venerable Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera, among the speakers, underscored about the richness of Buddhist development in Malaysia, emphasising the coexistence of three religious traditions within Malaysian Buddhism, steadfastly inheriting the core values and teachings of the Buddha.
In conclusion, the China-Malaysia Buddhist Cultural Exchange Conference, held on the auspicious occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations, stands as a milestone in enriching our understanding of Buddhist heritage and historical evolution. By honoring the legacy of Master Yi-Jing and fostering dialogue among diverse Buddhist traditions, the conference has illuminated pathways to unity and enlightenment.
