On 20 Feb 2023, 2,000 students gathered at Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, Badulla, Sri Lanka to attend the EDUCare program. Chief Reverend B. Sri Saranankara Maha Thera and delegates from Malaysia witnessed the program and handover school items to the students. Each student received a school bag, stationery, exercise books and pieces of white cloth for their school uniforms.
๐ ๐๐๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ท๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ต๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐ถ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ, Badulla is regarded as one of the Solosmasthana, the 16 sacred places in the country where Buddhists believe that this site has been visited by The Lord Gautama Buddha. On the 8th year after attaining the Enlightenment, the Buddha made his 3rd visit to Kelaniya on the invitation by a king of Naga people names Maniakkitha. During this visit, a local chieftain named Indaka invited Buddha to visit this place in Badulla. At the end of sermons made by Buddha there, Indaka wanted something to worship in memory of Buddhaโs visit. The Buddha is said to have given him a few of his hairs and a few drops of sweat that turned into pearls (mukthaka). This is also regards as one of the 32 Buddhist religious sites wherein the saplings bred from Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi have been planted.
โSuch charity work began since 23 years ago and performed annually for the children in Sri Lanka under the leadership of Chief Reverend B. Sri Saranankara Maha Thera and sometimes more than a time in the year. All these initiative could be realised not only with the support from us but importantly with the coordination work of the Sangha members and many volunteers locally. We hope every student has the chance to go to school and perform their duty as a student. One day, these children will be the leaders of the country.โ said the President of the society, Bro Jacob Chan.
School items were distributed to Dhamma school students of Badulla. The event is held at Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, Badulla with the local coordination led by the Chief of All Sri Lanka Sangha Legislative Assembly – Reverend Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thero.
