This discourse was taught by the Blessed One, taught by the Arahant, the fully enlightened Supreme Buddha. This is as I heard:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMonks, all the ways of making merit leading to future happiness do not equal a sixteenth part of the mind-liberation of loving-kindness. The mind-liberation of loving-kindness surpasses them and shines, blazes, and dazzles.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cJust as the radiance of all the stars does not equal a sixteenth part of the radiance of the moon, the moon\u2019s radiance surpasses them and shines, blazes, and dazzles, so do all the grounds for making merit leading to future happiness not equal a sixteenth part of the mind-liberation of loving-kindness. The mind-liberation of loving-kindness surpasses them and shines, blazes, and dazzles.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cJust as in the last month of the rainy season, in the autumn, when the sky is clear and cloudless, the sun, on ascending the sky, dispels the darkness of space and shines, blazes and dazzles, so do all the grounds for making merit leading to future happiness do not equal a sixteenth part of the mind-liberation of loving-kindness. The mind-liberation of loving-kindness surpasses them and shines, blazes, and dazzles.<\/div>\n

\u201cJust as in the last stage of the night, not yet dawn, the morning star shines, blazes, and dazzles, so do all the grounds for making merit leading to future happiness do not equal a sixteenth part of the mind-liberation of loving-kindness. The mind-liberation of loving-kindness surpasses them and shines, blazes, and dazzles.<\/div>\n

This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said. So, with regard to this, it was said:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The one, who mindfully develops loving-kindness immeasurably, sees the destruction of defilements. The fetters in his mind are worn away.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

If one spreads boundless loving-kindness without having a hateful mind, even for one being, as a result, he becomes a skilled Dhamma practitioner, not to speak of the power of abundance of merit accumulated by the noble one who has a compassionate mind towards all beings.<\/div>\n

\n
In this world, powerful kings who have conquered the earth crowded with beings have gone about performing sacrifices: the horse sacrifice, human sacrifice, water rites, and soma rites.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But those sacrifices do not equal even a sixteenth part of a well-developed mind of loving-kindness; just as all the stars in the sky do not equal even a sixteenth part of the radiance of the moon.<\/div>\n

The one who neither kills nor influences others to kill nor defeats others nor influences others to defeat, spreads loving-kindness to all beings \u2013 he has no hatred towards anyone or anything at all.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This, too, is the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One. This is exactly as I heard.<\/div>\n

\u5982\u540c\u4e00\u5207\u661f\u8fb0\u7684\u5149\u8f89\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ca\u6708\u5149\u5341\u516d\u5206\u4e4b\u4e00\uff0c\u800c\u6708\u4eae\u7684\u5149\u8f89\u80dc\u8fc7\u661f\u8fb0\uff0c\u800c\u95ea\u8000\u3001\u8000\u773c\u3001\u8000\u773c\uff0c\u4e00\u5207\u6210\u5c31\u672a\u6765\u5b89\u4e50\u7684\u529f\u5fb7\uff0c\u4e5f\u4e0d\u7b49\u4e8e\u6708\u5149\u7684\u5341\u516d\u5206\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u7b2c\u5341\u516d\u90e8\u6148\u5fc3\u89e3\u8131\u3002\u6148\u5fc3\u89e3\u8131\u8d85\u8d8a\u5b83\u4eec\uff0c\u95ea\u8000\u3001\u8000\u773c\u3002\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201c\u6b63\u5982\u96e8\u5b63\u6700\u540e\u4e00\u4e2a\u6708\uff0c\u79cb\u5929\uff0c\u5929\u7a7a\u6674\u6717\uff0c\u4e07\u91cc\u65e0\u4e91\uff0c\u592a\u9633\u5347\u4e0a\u5929\u7a7a\uff0c\u9a71\u6563\u865a\u7a7a\u7684\u9ed1\u6697\uff0c\u5149\u8292\u56db\u5c04\uff0c\u5149\u8292\u56db\u5c04\uff0c\u8000\u773c\u593a\u76ee\uff0c\u4e00\u5207\u5730\u9762\u4e5f\u5982\u6b64\u3002\u4e3a\u672a\u6765\u7684\u5e78\u798f\u800c\u9020\u529f\u5fb7\uff0c\u5e76\u4e0d\u7b49\u4e8e\u6148\u5fc3\u89e3\u8131\u7684\u5341\u516d\u5206\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u6148\u5fc3\u89e3\u8131\u8d85\u8d8a\u5b83\u4eec\uff0c\u95ea\u8000\u3001\u8000\u773c\u3002<\/div>\n

\u5982\u679c\u4e00\u4e2a\u4eba\u6ca1\u6709\u55d4\u6068\u5fc3\u800c\u6563\u5e03\u65e0\u8fb9\u7684\u6148\u7231\uff0c\u5373\u4f7f\u662f\u5bf9\u4e00\u4e2a\u4f17\u751f\uff0c\u4ed6\u4e5f\u4f1a\u6210\u4e3a\u4e00\u540d\u719f\u7ec3\u7684\u4f5b\u6cd5\u4fee\u884c\u8005\uff0c\u66f4\u4e0d\u7528\u8bf4\u90a3\u4e9b\u5bf9\u4ed6\u4eba\u6000\u6709\u6148\u60b2\u5fc3\u7684\u5723\u8005\u6240\u79ef\u7d2f\u7684\u4e30\u76db\u529f\u5fb7\u7684\u529b\u91cf\u4e86\u3002\u4e00\u5207\u4f17\u751f\u3002<\/div>\n
