According to the Buddhist records, the Buddha was born on a full moon day in May, two thousand years ago; 35 years later, He enlightened under the Bodhi tree on a full moon day in May and attained Parinibbana on full moon day in May as well. Although the three are not on the same day, they are all in May, and they have the commonality of “full moon”. Therefore, Buddhists of later generations decided to celebrate Vesak Day on the first full moon day of May every year.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
