Masoeyein Monastery, the largest monastery in Mandalay and home to the largest number of monks in the world, has unfortunately suffered immense damage from the recent earthquake. This historic and significant monastery, known for its vast number of monks and profound spiritual influence, now stands in ruins, with many of its buildings destroyed. The earthquake has left a devastating impact on the monastery community, with numerous monks severely injured, and tragically, several monks have lost their lives.
In response to this tragedy, Maha Karuna Buddhist Society Malaysia has provided support to the families of the monks who perished in the earthquake and to those who are currently hospitalized due to their injuries. A total of 25,000,000 MMKyats has been donated to ensure that these monks and their families receive the necessary assistance during this difficult time.
Donations have been made to the following monasteries and nunneries in the Sagaing Area:
Zinawdaya Monastery (150 monks and novices)
Myasakya Monastery (200 monks and novices)
Sakyadhitar Nunnery (200 nuns)
Samiddho Nunnery (120 nuns)
These four monasteries and nunneries are major temples in the Sagaing Area.
At these locations, support has been provided for the deceased and injured monks, novices, and nuns. The support provided to each monastery and nunnery is approximately 1,000,000 MMKyats per monastery.
We are deeply appreciative of the dedication of the local Sangha members and lay devotees, whose tireless efforts in coordinating and supporting every aspect of this relief mission have ensured that these resources reached the affected communities in a timely manner.
