《Scroll down for Mandarin Version》
Vesak Day commemorates three significant events in the life of the Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and parinibbana (passing away). On this auspicious occasion, the fourfold Buddhist community gathers to celebrate and deepen their practice on the noble path toward nibbana.
Voluntary event working committees have dedicated their services to create a meaningful and heartwarming event, intending to bring happiness to the Buddhist community and the public. These efforts aim to demonstrate the practical teachings of Buddhism and their applicability in daily life.
A large turnout of devotees came to pay homage to the Buddha Dhamma and Sangha and receive blessings from the Triple Gems. Many participants joyfully engaged in Dana (acts of generosity) and enjoyed a free flow of vegetarian food and beverages throughout the day.
On this day, it is especially important to practice the Buddha’s teachings of Loving kindness, Compassion, and Wisdom and to reflect on our blessings with gratitude.
The Buddha taught that there are two types of offerings: material offerings and spiritual offerings. While spiritual offerings excel, both types are equally important. When performing material offerings, it is essential to reflect on their deeper meaning. For example, when offering flowers, we contemplate their beauty and their eventual decay, symbolizing impermanence. When offering light, we wish to gain wisdom through a bright mind. Chief Reverend B Sri Saranankara Maha Thera reminds that one’s practices and accumulated merits follows one like a shadow.
Dhammapada Verse 14 explains that rainwater cannot seep through a well-thatched roof. In the same way, a well-cultivated temperament does not allow passion to penetrate. Chief Reverend reminds devotees to practice and train the mind so that lust does not penetrate a well-cultivated mind.
Maha Sadhu to everyone for their amazing, selfless, and tireless efforts in making the Vesak celebration a great success, benefiting and bringing happiness to many.
A heartfelt Sadhu to the organizing committee, Maha Karuna Buddhist Society, and Genting Buddhist Society for their successful collaboration for the second time.
May the Buddha Sasana flourish! Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
