On 05 April 2024, Chief Reverend Dr. Bootawatte and devotees embarked on an early morning journey to Delgoda for the EDUCare program. Warmly welcomed by the children, Chief Reverend Dr. Bootawatte Sri Saranankara Maha Thera and the Malaysian devotees stepping into the educational institute, witnessing the growth of children under the nurturing and care, fostering their learning journey.
Sri Jayanti Maha Karuna Youth Centre at Delgoda, Sri Lanka, spanning 4 acres, was constructed over six years and completed in February 2012, thanks to the collaborative support of Buddhist devotees from Malaysia under the guidance of Chief Rev. Dr. Bootawatte Sri Saranankara Maha Thera.
Initiated as a shelter for orphans and a community training center post the devastating Tsunami incident in 2004, the center evolved to offer free computer classes and other training programs to the orphanages and community.
In 2018, the SJ Maha Karuna Youth Centre became a shelter to the Mahamevnawa Buddhist College, accommodating a growing number of students from preschool to high school, totaling 1200 currently.
Chief Reverend Dr B. Sri Saranankara Maha Thera’s profound dedication, exemplary service and guidance have touched millions of lives within the Buddhist community, inspiring both recipients and givers to embody the values of generosity and truth, as epitomized in the Dhammapada Verse 224:
