Today, 24th July 2021, is Āsālha Full-moon day,
also known as Dhamma Day.
The sermon, Buddha gave to the five monks, was his first sermon, called the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta SN56.11
by expounding it to the Pañcavaggiyā, the Five Ascetics,
comprising Kondañña, (Aññā Kondañña), Bhaddiya, Vappa,
Mahānāma and Assaji at the Deer Park, Isipatana,
near Vārānasī (Benares).
The Tibetan tradition recognizes this (Chokhor Duchen) on the fourth day of the sixth lunar month (14 Jul 2021).
Theravada traditions generally mark the date (Asalha Puja or Asanha Bucha) as the full moon of the eighth lunar month, which typically takes place in July.
Important time a year for Theravada Buddhist monks and Vajrayana Buddhist monks is a three-months-long Vassa (结夏安居） or ‘Rains Retreat’ period, or “Yarney” Summer Retreat in Tibetan. It comes right after the full moon of Asalha month which is around July every year.
Buddha started this tradition of rainy retreat in the year 588 BCE.
Vassa (Rains Retreat) : 24 Jul – 20 Oct 2021
Yarney (Summer Retreat) : 24 Jul – 6 Sept 2021
While most of the Theravada Buddhist monks in Malaysia will start the vassa on 24 July 2021.
Most of the laity will offer food and daily need to Buddhist monks/nuns at monasteries during this 3 months time in order to assist the renounced one able to have peace of mind in the retreat.
At the end of the “Yarney” in Vajrayana Buddhism, there will be ending puja with monks’ debate and whole/half night teachings.
“Kathina” is a Theravada Buddhist festival which comes at the end of Vassa. It is a time of giving, for the laity to express gratitude to Buddhist monks. Lay Buddhists bring offerings to temples, especially new robes for the monks. Also the gift of the attha parikara (in Sri Lanka it is known as Atapirikara අටපිරිකර ) – the Eight Requisites – is part of the offerings.

佛陀给五位比丘的讲道是他的第一篇讲道，称为《转法轮经》。
通过向五苦行者Pañcavaggiyā解释它，

马来西亚的大多数上座部佛教僧侣将在2021年7月24日开始 vassa。
在这 3 个月的时间里，大多数在家人（居士）会为寺院的和尚/女尼提供食物日常用品，以让出家人人安心静休。
在金刚乘佛教的“Yarney”结束时，将以僧侣的辩论和整夜/半夜的教义结束法会。
“Kathina”是上座部佛教节日，在瓦萨结束时到来。这是一个布施供养的时间，是在家人对佛教僧侣表达感激之情的时候。在家佛教徒为佛寺带来捐献，特别是为僧侣提供新的袈裟。还有 attha parikara 等礼物（在斯里兰卡，它被称为 Atapirikara අටපිරිකර）——八种必要条件——也是供品的一部分。
